We're a local Mt Maunganui firm with near-zero staff turnover and a track record of high quality work.

Owner, Dave Shaw and his wife Carolynne, who runs the office, were born and bred here in The Mount. "Mounties" through and through. So were our four tradesmen and the apprentice. Two of the men actually did their apprenticeships under Dave and have worked with him as qualified builders for the last 11 or 12 years. The others each have 10 to 15 years' building experience.

For the last three years all our jobs have been referrals.

This says everything about the quality of our work, our competitive pricing, and the top standard of our customer relations and communication.

INSISTING ON HIGH STANDARDS
There's a trend to build high value houses here and in Tauranga, the so-called million dollar homes, and we have built our share of them as well as many standard homes.

We work well with interior designers and customers who have good taste because we consistently achieve the best possible finishes. In fact, Dave is almost fanatic about being precise and very particular, and this is obvious in our completed homes. They are always excellently finished.

This attention to detail and Dave's insistence that his men and the subcontractors work to the highest standards is one reason why we hit quality so consistently. The Supreme Award we won in the 2007 Placemakers Home of the Year competition shows just how highly even other builders regard our work.

TEAM WORK
But the other reason is that the seven of us work as a true team.

Five of the men have worked, fished and surfed together at The Mount for years. Each man is included in the decision-making, all are free to contribute their ideas, and everyone knows what is happening right across their project. Dave doesn't really need to, but he always puts the apron on, has a hammer in one hand and a phone in the other. There is almost no staff turn-over.

We're a capable, experienced, contented team and this is reflected in our work.

By running a team where each member is this good, and which is small enough so everyone can co-operate on all the details, we are able to keep all aspects of your job under control, stay in good communication with you, respond quickly to your questions, and guide the subcontractors properly.

WORKING WITH SUB CONTRACTORS
It's one thing to have a team that functions like a well-oiled machine. It's another to manage subcontractors, who may only work with us once or twice over the years. On each of our jobs, Dave has an onsite meeting with the subcontractors before they begin, gives them written notes from the client, and as they work insists they produce to the proper standard. They always do. (Even if they have to return and do the work again.)

FREE "WARRANT OF FITNESS"
When your home is finished, we're not.

We'll stay in touch with you for a couple of years, and every 12 months or so Dave will visit to give your home a free "warrant of fitness". Checking that things like decking, the roof, and flashings are all sound.
