We were referred to Dave Shaw by various friends who had used Shaw Builders as main contractor on their new build homes. Putting trust in a main contractor was a major undertaking for us and due to the fantastic result he achieved for us we have no hesitation in recommending Shaw Builders to others.

Dave’s hands on project management and clear, open style of communication meant we knew exactly how the project was tracking at all times. We found his team of builders to be very capable and his management of the sub-trades was excellent. Effective trouble shooting meant that any potential issues regarding weather delays, materials costs and logistics, and sub trade availability, were dealt with long before they had a chance to impact on the construction timetable and/or budget.

It was obvious from the very start that Dave was as passionate as we were about achieving a high spec finish on our home. The pride he had in his work during the construction phase is mirrored by the pride we now have in living in the completed home. Thanks again to Dave and the team at Shaw Builders.

Having built a number of houses over the years it was important for us to get the right builder for our own home.  After approaching several builders, a friend gave us Dave Shaw’s number.  We spoke with him and were impressed by his easy approachable manner, honesty and obvious love of building.  Our decision for Shaw Builders to build our family home was the best one we made.  From the beginning they were very professional and approachable and we always felt that Dave was firmly there for us in any dealings with subcontractors.  He is a perfectionist and demanded a high standard of workmanship from anyone involved in our house.

It was not unusual to find Dave on site after hours and on weekends ‘just checking’ what work had gone on.  Carolynne provided clear and punctual accounts and is also friendly and helpful; we now consider them both friends.  Dave always had practical solutions to any problems which occurred, his numerous years in the industry were evident in the contacts he had and his standard of work.  Dave obviously instilled loyalty in his workers as a number had been working with him for many years.

Our family home is a large one which took 13 months to build and now 9 months later, Dave still drops in to check on how things are working in the house and to check if any problems have arisen.  We are thrilled with our home and the standard of finish.  We would have no hesitation in recommending Dave & Carolynne Shaw to build your home and in fact we would not want to build with anyone else.

Our first association with Dave was in 1996; he was embarking on a business career, establishing Shaw Builders Ltd.
Dave built a home for us, his first in business, and the first of three he has constructed for us.

Twelve years on and Dave and Carolynne now have a very successful construction company that is a member of Master Builders Ltd, and employs eight staff.
Dave’s personal skills and ideals have been transposed to his tradesmen, also his absolute passion and demand for quality, both in materials and workmanship.

The business arrangement we have with Dave and Carolynne is totally transparent. This added to his quality standards creates a complete trust environment and invokes a highly productive business arrangement.

Three years ago we decided to leave Auckland behind us and came to the Mount looking for a more relaxed lifestyle. We looked at so many properties but nothing appealed until just before leaving for home, we found this townhouse. We spoke to David Shaw Builders - who was obviously proud of his workmanship. We liked the house and the builder and have never regretted the quick decision to purchase.

David believes in excellence and seeks perfection in all of his building projects. We have become well acquainted with David and his wife Carolynne and they deserve all the success in the world. They aim for satisfaction and go "the extra mile" in their desire to meet their clients needs.

Dave’s attention to detail is FIRST CLASS.  His project management skills are second to none.  Organising Trades people and the timing of these people meant our house was finished on time.  Dave’s hand on approach meant that any problems were sorted out immediately and he was always available for us with any queries.  I would have no hesitation in using his services again and would recommend him for any prospective building project.

We chose Dave over other builders because we found him easy to relate to, receptive of our ideas and had an excellent grasp of the architect’s design, drawings and overall concept.

We viewed other houses that he had under construction and were impressed with the quality of his workmanship.  Dave was a very competent project manager, with forward planning he ensured there were no delays during construction, and the subcontractors were always available when required.

It is to Dave’s credit that considerable amount of the ‘Quality’ of his work is unseen.  He pays particular attention to the detail of the work, ensuring such things as waterproofing is thoroughly carried out, and all other details of construction are done to a high standard.  He likewise makes sure that the subcontractors on site do their work to the highest standard.

Dave was ably assisted by Carolynne who managed the financial side of the building process and again, her competence in this area was excellent.  Dave and Carolynne maintained friendly, professional relationships with the architect, subcontractors, engineer and ourselves throughout construction.

We are very satisfied with the finished home, and have a well constructed beautiful home where we can relax and enjoy life at Mount Maunganui.

We first met Dave (Skippy), about 12 years ago and at this stage he was a foreman for another company. His employer at the time made comment that Dave did the work of about three men! This was something we never forgot, so it wasn't a difficult decision to have Dave building our latest major renovation.

Tom and I were very impressed with his quality workmanship. We have had many comments since, from other people in the building industry regarding the high quality and standard of his work. He was always easy to get a hold of, very responsive to any queries we had and very thorough.

We would like to make a special mention of his foreman, Shane. We always found him to be calm, collected and accommodating to ourselves and other contractors as well as incredibly hard working.

I would definitely use Shaw Builders again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend him to family and friends.

Why may you ask?

Simple, when you have a good experience, why break it.

As previously reported by us (and many others) Dave’s knowledge and expertise in the building industry is excellent, which is supported by Carolynne’s administration expertise simplifies the complete project process.

Their culture permeates through to their excellent tradesmen and also to the appointed sub-contractors.

When often asked for recommendations and introduction to Professionals and Trades Business’s, one can only do that if they have positive experience that provides the confidence to make such an important reference.

We have recommended Shaw Builders many times, and of those that have utilised them, have all thanked us for the introduction as they have also experienced a professional and comfortable engagement of their services.

What more can we say, only that if we build again in the Western Bay of Plenty, we don’t have the need to prospect builders, only to meet and plan with Dave and Carolynne.
